Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is currently holding meetings with senior bank executives, according to the People’s Gazette.

People who know about the situation say that Boss Mustapha, the federal cabinet secretary, and Abubakar Malami, the attorney general, are among the people at the meeting at the bank’s headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting’s specifics were not made public right away, but a senior official claimed they were related to an effort to get Mr. Emefiele to resign from his position and negotiate his release from the Department of State’s custody.

Recent attempts by the DSS to arrest Mr. Emefiele were unsuccessful due to two court judgements that forbade such draconian actions against a person in control of the country’s monetary policies and rules.

The Gazette reported that Mr. Emefiele had been stuck for weeks between the UK and the US, trying to enter either country to apply for asylum.

It wasn’t clear why Mr. Emefiele went to Nigeria at this time, since he had previously vowed to stay away until President Muhammadu Buhari gave him a clear guarantee of his protection from the DSS, which had continued to threaten him over accusations of funding terrorism and economic sabotage.
