Early on Friday, there was panic in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, because there were rumors that a Muslim cleric who lives there, Mohammadu Buhari Jamiu, had been taken.
According to reports, Buhari Omo Musa was kidnapped at his home in Ilorin in the early hours of Friday, according to a video clip that had the inscription “Buhari Omo Musa” in the background.
But contrary to rumors that he had been kidnapped, OBASANJONEWS’ research showed that the real well-known preacher, Buhari Omomusa, is safe and healthy.
In the background of the video that went viral, the wife of the cleric who was said to have been kidnapped could be heard pleading for help so that the family could pay the N5 million ransom that the unidentified kidnappers had asked for.
Another man’s voice on the video tape seemed to say that the unidentified kidnappers lowered their ransom demand from N30 million to N5 million after talking.
Fans of Buhari Omomusa didn’t understand why he was taken, were worried about him, and prayed for his safe return from his kidnappers.
Some people in the public saw a scheme to steal money from the public and the government as a new development, while others saw it as a case of mistaken identity caused by people having the same name.
In response, Buhari Omomusa said on the radio station that the news was wrong and that he was safe and hadn’t been taken away.
SP Okasanmi Ajayi, the state police command’s spokesman, branded the video footage as phony when reached by phone on Friday.
He claimed that Alhaji Tunde Buhari, who was abducted in the Oluwalose Community in the Oko-Olowo region of Ilorin, had been freed and made public.
“Even the second victim who was taken hostage alongside Tunde Buhari has been freed,” he continued.
The two victims that were freed were apparently kidnapped recently in the Oko-Olowo neighborhood of the Ilorin metropolis, the state capital.
