The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reiterated that there were no fatalities as a result of the flood at Trademore Estate in Abuja.

The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has confirmed this and dismissed the claims of casualties. A video circulating on social media had alleged that two individuals were swept away by the flood.

However, Florence Wenegieme, the Acting Director-General of FEMD, conducted an assessment of the affected areas and stated that no lives were lost. Wenegieme explained that they did not receive any distress calls from Trademore Estate and that residents they interviewed also confirmed no loss of life.

The FEMD activated various emergency response agencies, including NEMA, FCT Fire Service, Department of Development Control, and Department of Engineering Services.

It was noted that the houses affected by the flood were already marked for demolition in 2023 when Trademore Estate was declared a disaster zone. However, a court injunction obtained by the association of residents prevented the FCTA from removing the structures.

Wenegieme expressed concern about a primary school located on the water channel in the estate, emphasizing the need for residents in marked houses to relocate and for the estate owners to provide necessary infrastructure to prevent future flash floods and potential loss of lives.
