Thiouma Kwawi, a 39-year-old security guard, was given a four-year prison sentence by a Senior Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for severely beating and injuring his wife with cable wire.
Kwawi pleaded the court for mercy before being found guilty and condemned for using unlawful force, assault, and causing great harm.
Kwawi was given a two-year prison sentence for the first offence by Senior Magistrate Munir Sani, with the opportunity to pay a N200,000 fine.
Sani also gave the defendant a two-year prison term without the possibility of a fine for the second offence.
He commanded the prisoner to reimburse the wife for the N200,000 she had to pay for her medical care.

In addition, he gave the order to punish the prisoner with hard duty and transfer them to Suleja Correctional Centre.
The convict’s wife, 19-year-old Kauna Jedi of Mopol barrack Kuje Junction, Abuja, reported the incident to the Iddo police station on June 1, according to earlier testimony from the prosecutor, Dabo Yakubu, in court.
Yakubu said that the prisoner had severely injured his pregnant wife by beating her with a stone and cable wire.
He claimed that the offence was in violation of the Penal Code’s Sections 267 and 247.
Section 247 of the Penal Code states that anyone who intentionally causes great harm may be imprisoned for up to seven years and fined, unless their actions are excused under Section 245 of the Penal Code.
