The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has stated its commitment to eradicating crime from the region.
This was said by Dr. Rufus Ebegba, the FCT Chairman of PCRC, at the security conference held by FCT PCRC on Friday in Abuja with the theme, “The role of PCRC in national security.”
“Flash points in the FCT are places where crimes are committed hideouts, and we will decrease crime to the barest minimum if not completely abolished.
We trust that the PCRC will work closely with the police to ensure that these flash spots are removed because we don’t want them to exist in the FCT.
“Not just the flash points, kidnappings, one chance, and all other vices committed within the FCT,” Ebegba reaffirmed.
Ebegba pleaded with the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, and other pertinent authorities to recognise the necessity of purchasing helicopters, armoured cars, and drones to fight crime in the FCT.
We want to make sure that the government provides the Police with all the necessary help. “Wherever an alarm is triggered, two or three helicopters will head towards the area to battle crime.
“We want to compel the government to raise the police officers’ retirement age to 65 years.
The chairman made an appeal, saying, “This is so we won’t be losing good hands that have been trained over the years with government resources who have also trained themselves over the years and still willing to serve.”
Ebegba urged everyone who was interested to join the PCRC in the FCT to fight criminality.
All flash points in the FCT would be erased, according to the guarantee given by the acting inspector general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, who was represented by DCP Nurudeen Sabo.
Maintaining friendly ties with the public is crucial, according to Egbetokun.
Police Commissioner CP Haruna Garba, who was represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP Diya Sunday, promised to uphold community policing by interacting with the general public in order to fight crime.
We are talking about heinous crimes like kidnappings, robberies, and the like when Garba remarked, “At this time, we have pervasive challenges of crime in our nation.”
He promised that the police will increase their efforts to combat crime in the FCT while maintaining national security.
Members of PCRC were given instructions on community policing by PCRC National Chairman, Mr. Mogaji Olaniyan, who was represented by National Vice Chairman Central, Mr. Tanko Dada.
Olaniyan stated, “We must be attentive and communicate important material at the appropriate time.
In order to maintain proper security in the FCT, he praised the FCT PCRC chairman for all the seminars he has been holding for his members. (NAN)
