In the Sunday collapse of a three-story structure under construction in the Anambra village, at least three fatalities have been verified.

The event reportedly took place in the state’s Egbu Umuenem, Otolo Nnewi village, and Nnewi North Local Government Area (LGA), according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

NAN discovered that the building fell down at 1 p.m., just as the employees were allegedly getting ready to begin plastering.

According to eyewitness accounts, the deceased, which included a man and his two children, allegedly perished on the spot after reporting for work that day.

They allegedly arrived at St. Felix Hospital in Nnewi in a hurry, where it was determined they had passed away.

NAN also discovered that additional workers who were pulled from the rubble had a range of wounds.

Additionally, it was reported that they had been brought to the hospital for medical attention.

Mr. Victor Meju, the Chairman of the Anambra Chapter of the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), escorted some council state officials to the location.

Meju blamed the event on subpar materials, a bad concrete mix, a faulty foundation, and the lack of permission by the appropriate regulatory bodies while speaking to reporters at the scene of the accident.

He declared that the structure would be blocked off, and Mr. Chukwunafu Anamanjo, the owner, would be invited for questioning and an investigation.

Additionally, Mr Chris Obiora, the chairman of the Nnewi North LGA’s Transition Committee, urged the populace to always use licenced engineers and other qualified workers in the building industry for their development projects.

Obiora went on to say that monitoring teams were crucial in ensuring that builders uphold the required standards.

When asked for comment regarding the tragedy, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesman for the state Police Command, stated that the command had not yet received information about the occurrence.

Ikenga stated, “I do not yet have any information on it, but I will escalate the report to the Divisional Police Officer in the area for required action. (NAN)
