The police in New South Wales have confirmed that the number of fatalities resulting from a knife attack at a Sydney shopping center has risen to six individuals.

According to a police spokesperson, the assailant was fatally shot by a senior policewoman at the scene, and one additional victim succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

The incident took place at the Westfield Bondi Junction mall complex, where multiple people were stabbed by the unidentified attacker.

New South Wales police assistant commissioner Anthony Cooke stated that five victims had died due to the offender’s actions, with the motive remaining unclear.

While terrorism has not been ruled out, Cooke emphasized that identifying the assailant was a priority as investigations were still in the early stages.

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos and panic, with security camera footage showing the attacker wielding a knife and injured individuals on the floor.
