On Friday, an automobile accident at Oke-Onigbin on the Omu-Aran-Ilorin Highway in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara resulted in the deaths of eight people.
The accident involved a bus and an articulated truck.
In a statement released on Saturday in Ilorin by its spokesperson, Mr. Busari Basambo, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kwara, Mr. Stephen Dawulung, stated that the accident occurred during the night.
The Mitsubishi bus headed for Ilorin collided head-on with the articulated vehicle when it was passing another bus, according to preliminary investigation findings.
Eight people died instantly as a result of the incident. There were four children, three adult females, and one adult male.
“It was a crash that injured six other people,” he stated.
According to Dawulung, the wounded were transferred to a different hospital so they could receive treatment, while the deceased were placed in a mortuary.
He went on to say that improper overtaking, excessive velocity, and low visibility all contributed to the collision.
He recommended drivers to always stay away from nighttime driving, to never drive too fast, and to make sure they took a 30-minute break after every four hours of driving.
This is to prevent collisions brought on by poor vision, exhaustion, sleepiness, or a lack of vehicle control.
Dawulung counselled “the utmost degree of caution and concentration must be exercised while driving.”
