The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, reported that a tragic auto crash in Kogi resulted in the loss of 13 lives and left two individuals injured, as confirmed by Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, the Kogi FRSC Sector Commander.

The incident took place at approximately 7:30 pm on a Sunday, involving a commercial Sharon bus and an articulated cement truck near Obajana Market along Obajana-Lokoja Road in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi.
Oyedeji explained that the Sharon bus was stationary behind a truck at the market for passengers to make purchases when the cement truck, which had brake failure, collided with it from behind. This collision led to a devastating fire that engulfed the bus and resulted in the tragic loss of lives.
Despite the efforts of rescue teams from FRSC, Red Cross Nigeria, and the Police, the intensity of the fire made it impossible to save the passengers trapped inside the bus.
The remains of the victims were recovered from the scene, while the two injured individuals were rushed to Fisayo Hospital, Obajana for medical treatment.
Oyedeji expressed concern over the lack of willingness from hospitals in Kogi to keep the charred bodies, hinting at the possibility of a mass burial if no relatives claimed them.
Describing the incident as “very sad and unfortunate,” the sector commander urged motorists to prioritize safety by avoiding speeding and ensuring proper maintenance of their vehicles before embarking on journeys to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
