The Kano Sector Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) has sadly confirmed that 11 individuals lost their lives in a tragic car accident that occurred in Gaya Local Government Area of the state.
The incident took place on the 19th of April, 2024, at approximately 15:45hrs local time. CRC AA Labaran, the Sector Public Education Officer of FRSC RS1.2 Kano Sector Command, released a statement on Saturday providing details of the incident.
According to Labaran, the accident happened at the Gaya Junction along the Kano-Maiduguri road and involved two vehicles.

The first vehicle was a Toyota hummer bus with the registration number KTG 190 XB, while the second vehicle was a Hijet mini p/up with the registration number KTG 501 YG.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the crash was caused by over speeding, leading to a loss of control.
Out of the 28 individuals involved in the accident, 11 lost their lives, and 16 sustained injuries. Fortunately, one person was rescued unhurt from the wreckage.
The injured victims were immediately transported to Gaya General Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased were laid to rest in a mass burial ceremony.
The Kano Sector Commander, CC IS Abdullahi, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and stressed the importance of adhering to road safety rules and regulations.
He issued a warning to drivers, urging them to avoid traffic offenses such as speeding and overloading their vehicles with passengers, animals, or goods.
Additionally, Abdullahi advised commercial drivers to install speed limit devices on their vehicles to prevent accidents caused by exceeding speed limits.
The FRSC RS1.2 Kano Sector Command, under the leadership of CC IS Abdullahi, remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of road users.
They will continue to intensify efforts in enforcing traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
