Okekenu Gbadebo is alleged to have caused the death of his 37-year-old relative, Adebayo Gbenro, by punching him in the Ijemo-Agbadu area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The incident took place during an argument between the two while they were making arrangements for their late father’s burial ceremony at their family home in Ìjemò-Agbadu. According to a police source, Gbadebo punched Gbenro in the chest, leading to his collapse and subsequent death.
The incident caused chaos among the family members who had gathered for the burial party scheduled for the following day. Gbadebo was arrested by the police shortly after the incident was reported.
The victim and suspect involved in the incident were relatives who had attended a burial ceremony at their family house in Abeokuta.
It was during the preparations for the burial that a disagreement arose between them. Gbadebo, the suspect, allegedly struck the deceased in the chest, causing him to immediately collapse. The deceased was quickly taken to Ijaye General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The body has been taken to the hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. The suspect has been apprehended, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.
In a similar incident that occurred in 2018, a man named Julius Oliseh was arrested for fatally stabbing Isikilu Shittu during a burial party in Mowe community.
An argument had also taken place between Oliseh and Shittu, which escalated to the point where Oliseh used a broken bottle to stab Shittu in the neck, resulting in his death.
