The ongoing farmers registration in Taraba State has raised concerns for the National Coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations and Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria (NCNCSON).

In a statement released by the state Secretary General, Mike Adiel, the group expressed their alarm over the centralized approach of the registration exercise.

The aim of the exercise, which is to compile important data for the agricultural community, has been overshadowed by the difficulties faced by farmers in navigating the process.

The concentration of registration points has resulted in overcrowding, leading to stampedes and unconfirmed reports of fatalities.

Furthermore, the lack of essential information about the registration process has raised doubts about the quality of the data collected.

To address these challenges, the organization has called for the decentralization of registration points to ward levels or community headquarters.

This would allow local leaders, who possess intimate knowledge of the farming populace, to enhance accessibility and accuracy.
