Sunday Igboho, an activist for the Yoruba nation, has given accused herders who are killing farmers in the Southwest a seven-day deadline to leave the area.
However, the freedom warrior gave the region his word that it would not impose its own rules against the herders.
Igboho issued the following statement, in part: “While we believe in peaceful coexistence in Nigeria regardless of ethnicity, religion, and political cleavages, we are giving herdsmen killing our people in any portion of the South West a seven-day ultimatum to leave our communities immediately.
“This caution is quite significant. They must depart; we won’t impose rules; but they must leave.
For the time being, we have faith that the federal government, led by President Bola Tinubu, will be able to protect and guarantee the safety of lives and assets, particularly for Nigerian farmers.

“We must not put up with any behaviour that raises the cost of food and other consumables.
Additionally, we are pleading with the governors of Oyo and Ogun States to urgently send more security personnel and infrastructure to all hotspots where herdsmen/farmers are clashing more frequently in order to restore calm.
“To engage in small- or large-scale farming activities for significant food production, Nigerians and our farmers in agrarian communities today require more security presence. For the sake of everyone, these killings need to cease immediately.
