One person was killed in a deadly battle between farmers and Fulani herders in Rogu Village, Patigi Local Government Area, Kwara State.
Obasanjonews24 learned that when the farmer passed away, enraged local farmers broke into the Fulani camp in the hamlet.
A conflict between Fulani herders and farmers in the area led to the invasion.
Reports that got to Obasanjonews24 say that the angry farmers set fire to motorcycles and other Fulani herders’ property during the chaos that followed.
In the middle of the fighting, Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bologi 11, stepped in and told his people to stop fighting and keep the peace in the area.
He promised the Fulani that his family members would not retaliate and that everyone would be treated normally going forward.
Ali Muhammed Jounwuro, the head of the Kwara state branch of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), was very worried on Saturday about the burning of at least 103 houses belonging to Fulani people who had nothing to do with it.
He questioned why, if they felt certain people were breaking the law, the resentful people should take the law into their own hands.
“The Fulani camp in Patigi LGA’s Rogu has existed for more than 40 years. For the past 40 years, they have lived as law-abiding citizens without harming anyone, the chairman continued.
To prevent the problem from worsening, he urged the Kwara State Government to respond appropriately.
