A farmer named Terkula Chile, aged 30, residing behind RCM Primary School in Gwer-East Local Government Area of Benue, faced charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, causing grievous hurt, attempted culpable homicide, and criminal intimidation at a Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Kelvin Mbanongun, decided not to take the defendant’s plea due to jurisdictional issues and ordered that Chile be remanded at the correctional center in the state.

According to the prosecution counsel, Inspector Godwin Ato, the incident was reported on March 25 when Emmanuel Kume brought his son, Ikyeleve, to E Division Police Station in Makurdi with severe injuries including a severed left hand and a deep cut on his head.
Kume alleged that Chile, along with others, trespassed on his farmland where his son was working and brutally attacked him without any provocation.
The complainant further claimed that Chile had been bragging about sending a threatening message to the victim’s father and even went as far as threatening to kill him on sight.
