The Federal Government has made preparations to include beneficiaries of its Conditional Cash Transfer Scheme among the families of Nigerian soldiers who have died in battle and Nigerian Legion members.

This was revealed on Thursday in a statement made by Dr. Betta Edu, the minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, through her media advisor, Mr. Rasheed Zubair.

When the minister visited the Ministry of Defence in Abuja, she was speaking.

Edu claimed that the action was a result of President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s willingness to assist the weak ex-servicemen, widows, and heirs of dead heroes.

She subsequently looked for accurate information about the impacted ex-serviceman families so that she could put them in the national social register’s continuing verification.

Edu said that the president has given the go-ahead for the disadvantaged groups to be included to the national social register in order for them to be eligible for social intervention activities.

“This is in keeping with the agenda set forth by the President, and I am here to notify you that the initiative has been enlarged to include retirees from this Ministry, particularly the families of the deceased.

According to her, “government plans to assist their wives in launching small businesses that will help their kids stay in school and provide essential healthcare.”

She also declared the launch of the Government Enterprise Empowerment Programe (GEEP), which aims to support the nation’s small companies.

Edu consequently pleaded with the ministry to give humanitarian workers proper security protection as they worked in the fields.

Earlier, Badaru Abubakar, the minister of defence, praised the humanitarian ministry’s efforts to assist the families of the slain heroes.

Abubakar promised to increase cooperation with the ministry of humanitarian affairs in order to improve the situation of Nigerians.

The inclusion of retirees in the benefit programme, according to Abubakar, “will go a long way to renewed the hope of retired officers, their families, and motivate the working officers to secure the Nigeria territorial integrity.”

The retired Maj.-Gen. Abdulmalik Jubril, chairman of the Nigerian Legion, also spoke and thanked the federal government for incorporating retirees in the CCT programme.

The Nigerian Legion, which continues to grow every day, is the retired officers’ last resort, according to Jubril.

The Army, Air Force, and Navy retirees, who make up this branch of the military, require government help in order to receive adequate medical care and a living wage.
