False EFCC chairman detained in Abuja

Salman Umar Hudu, 38, was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

Hudu was taken into custody on Tuesday in a hotel for pretending to be Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the EFCC.

According to a statement by the commission, the 38-year-old received N100,000 from someone pretending to be Bawa and addressing any issues with the anti-graft agency.

The suspect would face charges in court after providing useful information, according to the EFCC.

In part, the statement reads: “The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, arrested one Salman Umar Hudu, a 38-year-old native of Kano, at a hotel in Abuja, for falsely representing himself as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and other officers of the Commission, and obtaining N100,000.00 from a person he convinced that he can “handle” any matter with the
