The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, or ASUSS, has placed academic activity in secondary schools in Taraba State to a complete halt.

The act is a protest against the brutal murder of their colleague by a group of suspected students that occurred recently.

The association’s leadership, led by secretary Dr. Kazon Ishaku, made the announcement on Friday, stating that the measure had become imperative to prevent similar incidents in the future.

According to the group, which held the belief that harm done to one is harm done to all, they have instructed their colleagues in secondary schools located throughout the state’s inaccessible areas to halt academic operations right away.

“We don’t have a better way of expressing our pains than telling our members to suspend academics in all the schools across our dear state,” they added, expressing their anguish over the abrupt end of their colleague’s life.

They urged the security services to take the initiative to stop these crimes, and stated that the government must fortify school perimeter security and push the safe school worldwide programme.

“We didn’t simply decide to shut down all of the state’s secondary schools. However, we are hurt by our colleague’s cruel death.

Telling our members to halt academic activities throughout the state is a better method for us to convey our grief to the authorities, parents, and other interested parties.

“Although there is no threat to any community or individual from our work as teachers, the state government needs to begin organising the deployment of SECU agents to schools.”

Our reporter’s visits to secondary schools located throughout the Jalingo city revealed that everything is not right with the institutions because every single kid was sent home.

The majority of the instructors who spoke with our reporter pledged not to restart academic activities until the union leadership decided it was appropriate to withdraw the ban on the suspension of academic activities, indicating that the direction was also fully followed by the teachers.
