Following the official launch of the Red Line, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s significant role in the project has been acknowledged, paving the way for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to introduce commercial operations on this vital transportation route.

This new railway line is anticipated to greatly benefit residents of Lagos, particularly those residing in border communities that have long struggled with transportation challenges.

The Red Line is poised to become one of the busiest transport corridors in the region, linking Lagos with its neighboring state, Ogun. As preparations are made for the commencement of commercial services, the Lagos State Metropolitan Transport Authority (LAMATA) is expected to outline a comprehensive plan for the upcoming test-run phase and subsequent operations.

In comparison to the Blue Line, which began operations last year, the Red Line is expected to offer a more efficient and streamlined service.

Being a Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) line and sharing the national corridor, the Red Line is anticipated to provide a smoother and less complex operational experience for commuters.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s groundbreaking ceremony for the Oyingbo – Agbado metro line marked a significant milestone in the development of Lagos’ transportation infrastructure. With the support of the Federal Ministry of Transportation and the Nigerian Railway Corporation, the metro line is set to feature multiple stations and overpasses along its 37km route.

The metro line will boast six train stations, including a mega station at Ikeja, with the remaining stations at Iju, Agege, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and Oyingbo. Additionally, the completion of the eighth station at Agbado is underway, along with the establishment of stabling yards at Oyingbo and Agbado to enhance operational efficiency.

Notably, the Oshodi station will be integrated into the Oshodi Transport Interchange, further enhancing connectivity within the city. Furthermore, a dedicated rail track section from Ebute-Meta Junction to Iddo (Oto) via Alagomeji has been completed to facilitate stabling activities, underscoring the comprehensive approach taken in the development of the Red Line project.
