At the occasion, the Nigerian Army’s deserving units received decorations.

In his eight years in government, President Muhammadu Buhari acknowledged that the fight against insecurity was difficult, but he also claimed that things have significantly improved.

At the inaugural unveiling of the national and regimental colors of the newly formed and operationalized Nigerian Army formations on Thursday at Eagle Square in Abuja, Buhari made this statement.

Since the start of this administration in 2015, violent acts and non-state actors have posed a serious threat to the security of the country.

Today, I’m happy to say that the situation has much improved. I also want to emphasize that we have made significant strides in the war against terrorists, militants, oil bunkers, kidnappers, and other criminal groups in the nation.

Buhari said that the Nigerian Army, which we are honoring today, would not have been able to carry out its duties.

“As of May 2015, the fighting capacity of our army was at a low level. Seven years later, its fighting prowess has greatly improved, moving it up to fourth place among African forces from seventh in 2015.

He pointed out that government interventions in the Army’s annual budget between 2020 and 2022 allowed for the acquisition of supplies and equipment for the insurgent war.

At the ceremony, deserving units that have contributed significantly to the nation’s security received awards.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, and Senate President Ahmad Lawan were among the luminaries present at the ceremony.
