Former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke seeks to amend her legal suit against the EFCC, intensifying her fight against corruption allegations.
Diezani Alison-Madueke, a former Minister of Petroleum, has requested to modify her legal action before Justice Inyang Ekwo at the Federal High Court in Abuja. She is contesting an order secured by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the permanent forfeiture of her confiscated assets.
At the resumed hearing, no legal representative attended on behalf of the EFCC.
Justice Ekwo inquired of her lawyer whether he had received documents from the anti-graft agency, and the lawyer confirmed that he had.
However, the lawyer informed the court that a motion to amend their processes had been filed and duly served to the commission.
Justice Ekwo subsequently rescheduled the matter for February 17, 2025, to hear the motion to amend their originating process.
The former minister had requested a court order to extend the period allowed for requesting permission to challenge and overturn the EFCC’s public notice regarding the sale of her property.
She claimed that she did not receive a fair hearing during any of the proceedings related to the orders for selling her property.
However, the EFCC stated that many of the claims made in Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s lawsuit were false.
It was observed that, unlike her statement in the affidavit, most of the cases resulting in the final forfeiture of the disputed property were heard and decided by the court at different times.
