Ex-Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Remanded in Kuje Prison Over Alleged N110 Billion Fraud
Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello faces remand in Kuje Prison following allegations of embezzling N110 billion. Discover the details of the high-profile case.
Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, has been detained in Kuje prison by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) located in Maitama.
Justice Maryann Anenih ordered the remand on Tuesday after rejecting Bello’s bail application. The court has postponed his trial to February 25, 2025, which means the troubled former governor will remain in detention until a verdict is reached.
Bello is confronting a 16-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The allegations entail his purported involvement in a ₦110 billion fraud during his time as governor.
Involved in the case are two former officials of the Kogi State government, Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, who have been named as co-defendants.
The EFCC’s case against Bello has attracted significant attention, as accusations of financial mismanagement and corruption have ignited discussions about accountability in governance.
