Abayomi Awoniyi, the former deputy governor of Kogi, made his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) official on Thursday.

According to OBASANJO NEWS24, a letter titled “Letter of resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party” that was provided to newsmen in Lokoja details his defection.

Former governor Idris Wada’s deputy was named Awoniyi.

In a letter dated August 31 and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Kogi’s Mopamuro Local Government Area, he announced his resignation.

I hereby present my letter of resignation from the People’s Democratic Party after 25 continuous years of devoted and dedicated membership and service, the letter stated in part.

“I am no longer a member of the PDP as of the date of this letter of resignation.

Please, through the party chairman of your neighbouring LGAs, express my profound gratitude to the party faithful in Mopamuro LGA, Kogi West Senatorial District, and indeed the entire state for their support and camaraderie throughout the years.

I am no longer a member of your party, but I look forward to our friendship continuing,” he said.

According to NAN, Awoniyi did not disclose any specific justifications for leaving the PDP.
