The arrest was made in relation to a fraud charge involving N1 billion intended for state road upkeep.
Idris Wada, the former commissioner for works and infrastructure, as well as the permanent secretary of the public procurement bureau and three directors, have all been detained by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
During a press conference conducted in his office on Tuesday, Muhyi Magaji, the anti-graft agency’s chairman, provided an update on recent events and announced that an investigation into charges of bribery against former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje will be resumed.
According to Magaji, the arrest was made on Monday in connection with a fraud charge involving N1 billion intended for state road maintenance.
“The Kano Anti-Graft Agency has successfully apprehended the former Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Idris Wada, the Permanent Secretary of the Public Procurement Bureau, and three Directors, based on credible evidence of their involvement in corruption,” he said.
Magaji emphasized that the organization was committed to looking into the claims in great detail.
“The Directors and Permanent Secretary have cooperated during the ongoing investigation. In pursuing this matter and making sure that justice is done, we will stop at nothing, he vowed.
The head of the anti-graft agency added that the decision to restart the case had been made.
After a video purportedly showing the former governor stuffing dollar bills into his pockets surfaced, the matter received widespread media attention.
We have chosen to revive the case against former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Magaji said. The allegations will be thoroughly investigated by our agency, and we’ll make sure that the law is obeyed.
The agency sent a strong message to the public that corruption would not be tolerated in Kano State by promising that no effort would be spared in the pursuit of justice.
