Ex-ADC to Goodluck Jonathan, Who Sued PSC Over Forced Retirement, Dies at 54
Former ADC to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, known for challenging his forced retirement in court, passes away at the age of 54.
Moses Jitoboh, who served as the former Deputy Inspector General and was once aide-de-camp to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has died at 54 years old.
Jitoboh, who had been dealing with a short illness, was reported to have passed away on Friday. His death was confirmed the following day by Adebola Hamzat, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 16 in Bayelsa State.
Hamzat conveyed his sadness, recalling Jitoboh as a dedicated officer whose legacy would endure within the force.
“The death of DIG Jitoboh is a significant loss, impacting not only his family but also the entire Bayelsa State, the Nigeria Police Force, and the nation as a whole,” stated Hamzat.
His contributions to the Nigeria Police Force, along with his dedication and integrity, will always be remembered. As he retired in 2023, we pray that God grants his family the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss of their beloved son.
Jitoboh held multiple roles at the Force Headquarters, working in areas such as Research and Planning, as well as Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
He also served as an ADC to Jonathan during his tenure as both the Governor of Bayelsa State and Vice President, before continuing in this role on Jonathan’s security team throughout his presidency.
After Jonathan’s election defeat in 2015, Jitoboh resumed his active duties with the police. In 2021, it was reported that Jitoboh was passed over when former President Muhammadu Buhari chose Usman Baba for the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP).
After Ibrahim Alkali retired in 2023, President Bola Tinubu appointed Kayode Egbetokun as the Inspector General of Police (IGP). Consequently, Jitoboh was compelled to retire because he held a higher rank than Egbetokun.
In 2023, Jitoboh contested his retirement by taking legal action against the Police Service Commission (PSC), alleging that it violated public service regulations and the Nigeria Police Act of 2020.
