Ex-Abacha Aide Hamza Al-Mustapha Officially Joins SDP

Former Chief Security Officer to late General Sani Abacha, Hamza Al-Mustapha, has officially defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), signaling a new political move.
Dr. Hamza Al-Mustapha has formally become a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), signaling a new chapter in his political career focused on advancing national development.
Al-Mustapha, along with his team, reached the SDP headquarters in Abuja and received a warm welcome from party leaders and supporters.
He stated that joining the party demonstrates his dedication to leadership founded on justice, security, and progress.
His defection follows just days after Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna, switched to the SDP.
El-Rufa’i has stated that they plan to oppose the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration in the 2027 elections.
Hamza Al-Mustapha served as the Chief Security Officer to General Sani Abacha, who was Nigeria’s military ruler from 1993 to 1998.
He was recognized as one of Abacha’s closest associates during the military regime.
