‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ Hits ₦1 Billion in Box Office Sales Within a Week
The blockbuster movie Everybody Loves Jenifa shatters records, grossing an impressive ₦1 billion in just one week at the Nigerian box office.
Funke Akindele’s latest films, “Everybody Loves Jenifa” and “Alakada! Bad and Boujee,” have driven Nigerian cinemas to surpass ₦1 billion in ticket sales within just one week.
Based on data from Nile Media Entertainment Group, Nigerian cinemas achieved a record high by selling tickets valued at N1.02 billion between December 20 and 26, 2024.
“Today, we’re thrilled to announce an amazing achievement: in 2024, the Nigerian box office has surpassed 1 billion Naira within a single week,” declared the independent entertainment company.
As of December 26, Funke Akindele’s film “Everyone Loves Jenifa” has achieved 153,800 total ticket sales and generated N782.8 million in just 14 days. It’s on course to exceed the N1 billion naira milestone faster than her previous record-setting movie, “A Tribe Called Judah,” which reached a billion in ticket sales within 21 days.
The movie has become the fastest Nollywood film to earn N500 million, reaching this milestone in just 12 days.
During its opening weekend, the movie grossed $100,000 across nine international territories, including the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia.
An analysis of the weekly figures showed that December 26 set a new record as the highest-grossing day in box office history, with ticket sales reaching N256.4 million.
On that particular day, over 47,500 tickets were sold, ranking it as the third-highest in ticket sales history. It followed December 26, 2019’s record of 55,449 tickets and December 26, 2018’s total of 52,563.
“Everybody Loves Jenifa” maintained its remarkable success, setting a new benchmark as the first film to earn over N100 million in just one day, breaking its earlier record of N89.8 million. During the week, four films exceeded N25 million on a single day; five titles reached the milestone of earning N15 million in a day; six movies grossed an impressive total of N10 million each in one day’s time, while eight titles surpassed earnings of over N5 million daily.
According to data from the Nigerian Box Office X page, “Everybody Loves Jenifa” topped ticket sales for the week with N426.9 million. It was followed by Mufasa at N173 million, “Alakada: B&B” at N127.3 million, “The Waiter” garnering N104.2 million, and “Moana 2,” which brought in N52.7 million.
Nile Media emphasized that the N1.02 billion figure showcases the passion, creativity, and resilience of the film industry.
“It demonstrated that our stories are important, audiences are keen to engage, and together we can attain greatness,” it declared.
