After it was determined that Everton had violated the profit and sustainability regulations of the Premier League, the team was docked ten points.

Sean Dyche, the manager, is devastated by the news, which drops the Toffees to 19th place in the rankings with just four points, one point ahead of Burnley on goal differential.

“An independent commission has imposed an immediate deduction of 10 points on Everton for a breach of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules [PSRs],” the Premier League declared following their largest points deduction since its creation in 1992.

Earlier this year, the Premier League filed a complaint against the team and forwarded the matter to an impartial panel.

“The club acknowledged during the proceedings that it had violated the PSRs for the season ending in 2021–2022, although there was disagreement over the severity of the violation.

“The Premier League argued that Everton’s PSR calculation for the relevant time resulted in a loss of £124.5 million, which surpassed the level of £105 million authorised under the PSRs. The commission found this after a five-day hearing last month.

The panel came to the conclusion that there should be a 10-point deduction applied as a sporting sanction. That penalty is effective right now.

Everton has expressed its “shock and disappointment” at the case’s conclusion and plans to challenge the sentence.

In a statement, the Toffees said: “Everton maintains that it has always respected the integrity of the process and that it has been open and transparent in the information it has provided to the Premier League.”

“The club does not acknowledge the conclusion that it did not behave in the best interest of the game, and it does not believe that the Premier League made this claim at any point throughout the proceedings.

“The severity and harshness of the punishment imposed by the commission do not fairly or rationally represent the evidence that was presented.

“The Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations will be closely observed by the club in any subsequent cases.”

Before the big deduction of points, Everton had begun to show some signs of improvement.

After overcoming West Ham 1-0 last month, the Toffees won their second straight away game last weekend, defeating Crystal Palace 3-2 at Selhurst Park.

After the international break, Manchester United will be the first team to visit Goodison Park as Dyche’s team fights desperately to avoid relegation.
