Due to the threat of erosion, some residents of the capital territory’s Awka neighbourhood have left their homes.
Residents of the area implored the governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to save them during a meeting to assess the extent of damage already caused by the threat.
While many locals have given up on their homes, the gully that has devoured a sizable piece of ground in Amachalla village continues to pose a threat to further structures.
Emeka Ezekwe, Joseph Adimonye, and Sam Nwanna, three locals who spoke with media, claimed that the destruction had left the region desolate.
Many individuals have left their homes due to erosion, according to Adimonye.
“Many abandoned properties can be found here, including some whose owners just begun construction but gave up.
“In this very location five years ago, a man killed himself because he couldn’t stand the destruction to his home. That is the situation we are currently in.
Governor Soludo was urged to help the locals and people by Mr. Chris Offordile, chairman of the “Awka Na So Enwe Foundation,” who held a meeting of residents from the afflicted area.
This is not something that people can accomplish, he remarked. Even our foundation cannot handle this, but we are confident that the Governor can.
“This is a serious threat to lives, and we are requesting that the Governor step in and solve this issue.”
