Baltasar, a prominent figure from Equatorial Guinea, has been remanded in prison following a scandal involving 400 alleged s3x tapes. Learn more about the unfolding case and its impact on the country’s political landscape.

Baltasar Engonga, the former Director-General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency, has been detained at Black Beach Prison in Malabo, as reported by OBASANJONEWS.

The former anti-corruption chief, who is currently facing various controversies, was arrested a few days ago for allegedly creating over 400 sex tapes featuring the wives of prominent figures in the country.

The scandal emerged during a fraud investigation involving the 54-year-old economist, leading to an unplanned search of his home and office by ANIF officials. During the search, they reportedly found several CDs that exposed his sexual encounters with various married women.

After the footage leaked online and sparked a media uproar, President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea dismissed Engonga.

As stated in Decree No. 118/2024, dated November 4th, the dismissal was attributed to “irregularities committed during his official duties and inappropriate family and social behavior incompatible with holding public office.”

A viral video emerged on social media on Friday, depicting Engonga handcuffed both at the hands and feet during a court appearance.

According to a report by the French online blog Afrikmatin, Engonga was formally dismissed from his position on November 6, 2024. Afterward, he was chained and taken to Malabo Central Prison, where he faces accusations of corruption and embezzlement.

Moreover, the online newspaper UGStandard noted that while Engonga was detained at Malabo’s infamous Black Beach Prison on charges of embezzling public funds—information confirmed by state television TVGE—the sex tapes began to circulate across social networks.

In a fact-checking report released on Wednesday, Dubawa confirmed that Engonga had been arrested on corruption charges and is presently detained at Black Beach Prison.
