Once Frank Lampard’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, Todd Boehly’s Chelsea is expected to choose Carlo Ancelotti as Graham Potter’s permanent replacement.
On Sunday, Boehly fired Potter and appointed Lampard as Potter’s acting manager for the remainder of the campaign.
Ancelotti, who is now Real Madrid’s head coach, has been placed by the American to the list of possible Potter replacements.
After a lacklustre tenure at Everton, Ancelotti improved his standing by orchestrating Real Madrid’s unexpected Champions League victory the previous year.
This summer, a transfer away from Real Madrid has been mentioned for the 63-year-old.
According to ESPN, Boehly and Chelsea are seeking for a new head coach that checks many of the boxes Ancelotti does. The Italian’s desire to collaborate with a technical director fits the Stamford Bridge organisational structure.
From 2009 and 2011, Ancelotti served two years with Chelsea, where he won the Premier League and FA Cup twice.
In addition to Ancelotti, the source stated that Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann had already spoken with Chelsea this week, and that Chelsea is also considering Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho for the position of Chelsea manager.
