Considering Kai Havertz’s outstanding performance against Manchester City, Arsenal great Ian Wright has urged that the German start in place of Eddie Nketiah.
At the Emirates Stadium, Havertz came off the bench for the final 15 minutes of the match against Man City and assisted Gabriel Martinelli on his game-winning goal.
Just over a week ago, he also scored in a 4-0 win over Bournemouth.
Nketiah’s performance against Pep Guardiola’s team left Wright unimpressed, and he claimed that Havertz may replace him on Mikel Arteta’s squad.
On the Wrighty’s House podcast, Wright remarked, “You know what, if [Havertz] doesn’t go in there to lay it back down, we may not get that [goal against Man City].”
“Because Eddie, as I mentioned, put in a lot of effort and made a lot of runs, at times.
However, if you look at the build-up, there are occasions when he is either too far to the left if it’s on the right or too far to the right if it’s on the left.
And all you need is that body, that focal point in the middle, where Thomas Partey can chip in and make sure that it is anchored by his chest before being laid off again.
And I believe that Kai Havertz’s appearance and that action were both fantastic for us.
“I think Eddie [Nketiah] worked his asses off, and it’s really challenging. You have very little chance of beating Manchester City.
