The main issue facing Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is not replacing the prone to errors custodian Andre Onana, according to former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton.
Remember how Man United lost to Galatasaray in the Champions League midweek, twice blowing two-goal leads, and having to settle for a 3-3 draw as a result of Onana’s errors?
Onana’s confidence is probably at an all-time low following yet another dreadful showing, but Sutton believes Ten Hag has a more serious problem in central midfield that needs to be addressed.

Sutton adds that Onana needs protection and that Man United’s defence and custodian are being compromised by the absence of a dedicated defensive midfielder.
Declan Rice is at Arsenal, Sutton informed the Daily Mail.
“Rodri plays for Manchester City. There is Yves Bissouma of Tottenham. Moises Caicedo plays for Chelsea. Alexis MacAllister plays for Liverpool.
“Manchester United, on the other hand, has a defensive midfield player that I attacked last year for calling a £70 million panic signing.
Not in the same league as Rodri, Rice, or any other outstanding midfield player who has the ability to dictate play. Because Casemiro is not the solution to the midfield’s lack of protection, the choice to allow him to sign a long-term contract is beginning to appear quite dumb.
“Goalkeeper Andre Onana, who has been flapping whenever anything flies his way, needs all the protection he can get.”
