Cole Palmer, a summer acquisition for Chelsea who formerly played for Premier League champion Manchester City, has provided an explanation for his choice.
In the summer transfer window, Chelsea and Palmer agreed on a long-term contract.
The 21-year-old stated he joined Mauricio Pochettino’s team because he wanted more opportunity to play for the main team. He appeared in the England Under 21 team’s triumph against Luxembourg on Monday.
Palmer was reported by Metro UK as saying, “I’m not saying I shied away from the competition (for places at Man City), because I have never done that,” when asked why he chose to join the west London club.
“I’d been there (in the first team’s vicinity) for a few years and want more playing time in my position and the chance to make a bigger impression.
The decision to relocate to Chelsea was a big one. I knew I was flying to London the next day when I left the training facility on Thursday. As I sat in the car and prepared to go, it all suddenly hit me. You’ve been here for 15 years, I was just thinking.
“I am not aware of any distinctions. I’ve never been lent anything. I haven’t ever left Manchester. I’ve only ever travelled outside of Manchester for vacations or away games. Even though going there feels strange, there is no time to waste. I must do that right away.
