EPL: Arsenal Climbs to Second Place with 2-1 Victory Over Tottenham
Arsenal secures a crucial 2-1 win against Tottenham, propelling them to second place in the English Premier League standings and boosting their title ambitions.
After their 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night, Arsenal advanced to second place in the Premier League.
The Gunners entered the match following two straight defeats at the Emirates.
Mikel Arteta’s team suffered a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle United in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, and were later eliminated by Manchester United following a penalty shoot-out in the FA Cup.
It appeared to be heading towards a third consecutive defeat when Heung-Min Son gave Spurs the lead with a deflected shot in the first half.
However, the hosts regrouped and secured the lead before halftime.
Gabriel Magalhaes’ header was redirected into the goal by Dominic Solanke, and then Leandro Trossard fired in a second.
The second half saw no goals, despite Arsenal having multiple opportunities to extend their tally beyond two.
As a result, Arsenal has moved ahead of Nottingham Forest, who had drawn with league leaders Liverpool on Tuesday.
They are also four points behind Arne Slot’s team, who still have a game in hand.
Spurs are still in 13th place with only one league victory—against Southampton, who are at the bottom of the table—since defeating Manchester City in November.
