The Enugu state police command has apprehended twenty-nine individuals suspected of being involved in kidnapping activities within the state, as revealed by the state commissioner of police, Kanayo Uzuegbu.

During a briefing with journalists, Uzuegbu highlighted the achievements of his command between April and May 2024, mentioning that additional suspects were also detained for various criminal offenses.

He further explained that some of the arrested suspects have already been presented in court and are currently detained in the correctional facility, while the rest will face charges following thorough investigations.

Out of the total number of apprehended individuals, 29 were linked to kidnapping, while others were associated with crimes such as armed robbery, vandalism, murder, cultism, rape, and illegal possession of firearms.

The commissioner disclosed a disturbing incident where a rape suspect was taken into custody on April 25th after sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl and causing significant damage to his residence.

Uzuegbu praised Enugu State for being one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, commending its law-abiding citizens.

He took the opportunity to denounce the sit-at-home directive issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as an anomaly, encouraging individuals to continue their lawful activities while assuring them of the command’s security measures.

Regarding the recent attack by suspected herdsmen resulting in four fatalities, the commissioner vowed to collaborate with police commissioners from Benue and Kogi States to combat such criminal activities.
