Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council International, the leading Igbo sociocultural organisation, has responded to the results of the March 18, 2023, governorship election in Enugu State.
This comes after the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate Barr. Peter Mbah was declared the victor of the poll by all major opposition political groups in the Coal City State.
They have all stated their plans to file petitions with the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal challenging the election results.
But, in a statement, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the national president of the Ohanaeze Youths, advised the parties that felt wronged to give up on the concept of taking Mbah’s triumph to court.
Okwu asserted that Mbah should embrace his opponents’ offer of friendship in the best interests of the whole State.
“We are pleased that the people of Enugu State handed their mandate to Barr. Peter Mbah, just as we begged them when we offered him our support,” he added.
The time for politicking is finished now that Mbah has been named the election’s victor; although only one person will be crowned the winner, everyone actually won. Everyone, including those who ran against him, may celebrate the triumph.
To bring Enugu State ahead, we thus make a plea to all parties who feel they have been wronged to put down their weapons and work with the governor-elect. There are usually so many distractions during a legal proceeding, which may not be good for the State.
The Ohanaeze youths then urged Mbah to formally extend his hand of friendship to the rival political groups.
Okwu urged the governor-elect, “We encourage the governor-elect to work his talk by really embracing the other candidates and making them part of his government.
