The rescheduled rerun poll for the Enugu South 1 State Constituency was postponed for security reasons, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
The postponed poll was cancelled early last week due to security concerns, according to Chukwuemeka Chukwu, the state’s INEC resident electoral commissioner, who made this revelation in Enugu on Sunday.
The REC announced that the June 8 rerun election will now take place at a later time that the Commission would announce.
“All parties involved were duly informed of the planned repeat election’s postponement last week, along with a detailed explanation for the delay.
“However, it surprises me that some misguided individuals are spreading various baseless rumours and falsehoods against the Commission, claiming that it appears the election was conducted in secret even as I speak with you,” he stated.

The State House of Assembly candidate for the Labour Party, LP, Bright Ngene, was sworn in as the election’s winner on March 18, 2023, according to the News Agency of Nigeria. However, the election was ruled void by the tribunal due to its lack of conclusive results.
The election is being held for the third time by INEC.
Voters reportedly congregated in the impacted voting places as early as 7:00 am on Saturday, however no INEC representative was visible at the location.
Ngene, the LP candidate, expressed her dismay at the development while she was at the polling place.
He informed reporters that neither his party nor he had any information suggesting that the election would not take place.
Sam Ngene, the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that his party was duly informed of the postponement.
