Enugu Assembly officially passes N521.5bn 2024 appropriation bill
The Enugu State House of Assembly approved the N521,561,386,000 2024 budget estimate on Thursday.
Following the screening of the budget estimate on the House floor, Hon. Anthony Nwankwo, the chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, presented the report. He stated that the committee deemed the budget estimate to be perfect and encouraged the parliament to approve and enact it.

All of the House’s members, who backed the governor, praised him for spearheading what they saw as a paradigm shift in the budgeting process’s recurrent and capital expenditure ratio, which had historically favoured the wealthy. They also pointed out that the state would soon experience exceptional infrastructure development thanks to a capital expenditure of N414,334,120,000, or more than 79% of the total budget.
As a result, the House approved the bill into law with a unanimous vote.
In the meantime, Speaker Hon. Uchenna Ugwu stated that the House’s work was not yet done, adding that it would continue to exercise strict oversight to guarantee that the law was fully implemented in the best interests of the people. This was in response to the bill’s passing.
“Members of the state House of Assembly just passed this ‘Budget of Disruptive Economic Growth’ into law, fulfilling their constitutional duty,” he declared. The executive branch of this government is now using it as a working paper.
“The budget can bring prosperity to the people of Enugu State because it has a capital spending percentage of roughly 79% and a recurrent expenditure percentage of 21%. Major portions of the funds go towards funding the health, education, and agriculture sectors of the economy.
As a result, I urge the executive to make every effort to put the information in their document into practice. Furthermore, I want to reassure the state’s citizens that this House of Assembly will take its responsibility for supervision extremely seriously.
Things won’t be doing as they normally do. Every dollar that we have allotted will be used carefully, we promise.
“Let me also take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our beloved governor, Peter Mbah, for providing this state’s economy with a lifeline.”
Remember that on December 5, Governor Mbah presented the state’s highest-ever budget estimate of N521.5 billion, which the House of Assembly promised to provide prompt consideration in order to provide growth and development for the state’s citizens.
