Eniola Aluko makes history as the first black woman to acquire an Italian club

Eniola Aluko, a former player for the England women’s national team, has made history by becoming the first black woman to take ownership of a club in Italy.

Aluko has recently acquired a significant share in the female team of FC Como, a club based in Italy.

The 37-year-old shared this exciting news on her social media platform, mentioning her involvement in a group called Mercury 13, which has purchased a majority stake in the club for $100 million.

Como Women’s team was established just last year in 2020 and currently plays their matches at a stadium with a capacity of 3,700 spectators.

Competing in the top tier of Italian women’s football, the Serie A, Como Women are making strides in the competitive league.

Eniola Aluko, who hails from Lagos, Nigeria, was born in 1987 to Nigerian parents.

Despite her Nigerian roots, Aluko later became a naturalized citizen of England and represented the English nation
