Obi pleads with #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria protesters to shun violence, emphasizing peaceful demonstrations.

Peter Obi, a previous contender for presidency under the Labour Party, has urged demonstrators of #Endbadgovernance to avoid violence and prioritize peace within the nation.

In his statement released via X on Friday evening, Obi underscored the significance of peaceful protests while acknowledging the heartbreaking loss of lives during Thursday’s nationwide hunger and hardship protest.

“I express my deepest and most sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests. The loss of our fellow brothers and sisters is deeply mourned as they fought for a better nation.” – Obi

Obi expressed hope that the voices of protesters would be heard while acknowledging their demands, stating “I sincerely hope that their lawful and valid requests will not remain unaddressed.”

He implored the protesters to uphold non-violence, expressing, “My request to demonstrators is unwavering – stay composed and pacifist in your endeavors. I advocate for refraining from any acts of aggression because obliterating our present progress impedes constructing a better tomorrow.”

Obi urged security agencies to show restraint in how they deal with the protests.

He stated his appeal to the security agencies, urging them to maintain civility in safeguarding lives and property during the current protests.

Obi was even more optimistic about the future of Nigeria.

He stated his firm belief that Nigeria will eventually rise and leave behind the problems of hunger, poverty, insecurity, corruption, and misappropriation of public funds. At that point in time, Nigeria would become a model country renowned for its human and national progress.

The protests have triggered violent outbreaks in Abuja, Kano, Niger, Borno, Kaduna and Jigawa states with an estimated death toll of at least 17 people.

Amidst the protest on Friday, police and demonstrators resorted to conflict in various regions of the country while significant roads remained empty and both businesses as well as banks were closed.
