Ezekwesili calls on Tinubu and state governors to implement three crucial actions to combat bad governance. Discover her insights and recommendations.

Obiageli Ezekwesili, the ex-Education Minister, has advised President Bola Tinubu and 36 state governors on actions to alleviate Nigeria’s dire situation and improve citizens’ well-being.

As the hunger protests across the country continue into their sixth day, this statement emerges.

According to Ezekwesili, the governors’ actions of silencing citizens, issuing threats and taunts while subjecting them to brutality is imprudent and shows their disconnection from the people’s plight.

On Monday, through her X handle post, the ex-minister advised Tinubu and other political leaders to seize a small opportunity in order to quickly fulfill their citizens’ demands for good governance by putting an end to bad governance practices in Nigeria.

Ezekwesili reiterated a viable approach for @NigeriaGov and @officialABAT to lead Nigeria and its citizens out of the unfavorable dilemma in which the country currently resides:

The foolish response by @NigeriaGov to citizens expressing hunger and anger caused by #BadGovernanceInNigeria was to silence, intimidate, mock and inflict brutality upon them instead of empathizing with their plight.

It is clear that the lack of empathy displayed has only fueled the determination of the protesters, as evidenced by their continuation into Day 5.

There remains a small opportunity for the @NigeriaGov, @NGRPresident, @officialABAT, @nassnigeria, @NGRSenate,@HouseNGR and State Governors and Assemblies to act promptly on Day 5 of protests across Nigeria. The citizens demand #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria from their leaders who now have a chance to do right by them.

It is imperative that you venture out to the Protest Grounds nationwide and actively connect with your constituents. Listen intently as they voice their demands directly to you. It’s unacceptable for public officials to seclude themselves within government buildings, indulging in a lavish lifestyle while citizens struggle with economic hardship-induced hunger and desperation on the streets crying out for help.

“Now is the time for @NigeriaGov, @NGRPresident, @nassnigeria, Governors of State and their respective Assemblies to connect with citizens. Take action immediately.”

“Pay attention. Pay attention. Pay attention.”

“Get involved. Participate actively. Connect.”

@officialABAT and @nassnigeria have the opportunity to turn this crisis into a timely chance for Nigeria’s reset, addressing medium-to-long-term issues. It is no secret that in its current state, Nigeria desperately needs resetting as acknowledged by reasonable Nigerians everywhere.

The growing anxiety among our fellow citizens throughout the nation is merely an indication of more profound underlying issues. Therefore, @officialABAT should take charge and guide other political leaders alongside representatives of citizens nationwide in devising a credible national dialogue that centers on establishing the most efficient structure and course for good governance across all levels towards productivity, competitiveness, prosperity as well as justice, equity equality order peace harmony stability, and resilience.

“You still have the choice in your hands, @NigeriaGov.”
