Employment Not Top Priority for My Administration at Present- Otti
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, stated that employing new individuals into the state’s civil service is not currently a top priority for his administration.
During a media interactive session in Umuahia, the governor emphasized that the government’s focus is on addressing existing issues within the civil service.
He mentioned that there is still an existing embargo on employment.
Despite the verification process, Otti expressed concern about the high number of personnel in the civil service. He also highlighted the significant monthly wage bill of about four billion naira for both the local government and state.

However, the governor assured that the government is diligently working towards improving the pay and performance of civil servants.
Otti acknowledged the presence of individuals in the service who may not be contributing optimally and emphasized the need to address this issue.
While opening doors for new hires may not be a priority at the moment, the government aims to enhance the training and skills of existing personnel through the establishment of the Civil Service Commission and the appointment of new Head of Service and Permanent Secretaries.
