Two persons who perished on Saturday night in Kano while cleaning a diesel reservoir have been officially certified dead by the Kano State Fire Service.
This is stated in a statement that the fire service’s public relations officer, Saminu Abdullahi, gave to reporters on Sunday in Kano.
According to him, the event happened in the Fagge Local Government Area along the Katsina Road at the Baban Gwari junction.
The deceased were identified by Abdullahi as Philip Emmanuel, age 35, and Philip Osando, age 40.
“On Saturday, around 8:20 p.m., we received an emergency call from Police Inspector Abubakar Surajo. At approximately 8:27 p.m., our rescue team arrived at the scene.”
According to Abdullahi, the deceased were told to prepare for receiving diesel at their place of employment. They tried to empty the diesel reservoir by entering it, but were unable to exit.
He stated that after being retrieved by firefighters, the victims were turned over to law enforcement.
The two were taken to the hospital, Abdullahi continued, where medical professionals pronounced them deceased.
“Everyone should practise safety; consider your actions before taking them to prevent unanticipated events,” he cautioned.
