Less than 24 hours before the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year term, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila called an emergency session of the House.
By noon, the legislators will meet.
The emergency session’s agenda has not yet been made public.
The CBN Act, which the Senate approved on Saturday, could be amended during this session.
It is reported that President Buhari is looking for solutions to the N23.7 trillion ways and means loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Earlier, the idea of securitizing the loan by turning it into a bond received approval from both houses.
However, because of the continuous conflict between Gbajabiamila and his deputy, Idris Wase, the House has become unpredictable over the last several weeks.
On Wednesday, Gbajabiamila and Wase got into a public spat about the House’s meeting since the former continues to block it from assembling while he is away facing impeachment rumors.
One of the speakers-to-be, Wase, is said to be upset with Gbajabiamila for supporting Tajudeen Abbas for the position of Speaker of the incoming 10th House of Representatives.
