A campaign of defamation against it and the government over the suspension and investigation of Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has been planned, according to the Department of State Services, or DSS.
The DSS further asserted that “the groups intend to assemble at various locations in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and Lagos in the ensuing week with placards depicting the Service and government in a negative light and calling for the immediate release of Emefiele.”
This information was revealed in a statement released on Saturday by Peter Afunanya, National Headquarters Abuja’s DSS Public Relations Officer.
The Service asserted that it was aware of attempts to infiltrate its ranks with the intention of utilizing disloyal employees for subversive purposes against its leadership and issued a warning to the plotters to immediately abandon their intentions.
The Department of State Services (DSS) released a statement saying that it has “identified individuals and organizations planning to mount defamation campaigns against it and the Government over the suspension and investigation of Mr. Godwin Emefiele.
“Such groups plan to congregate in the upcoming week at various locations in Abuja and Lagos with placards that criticize the Service and Government and demand Emefiele’s quick release.
The Service is consequently aware of shoddy propaganda that aims to divert it and demotivate it from carrying out the difficult tasks that have been given to it in a competent manner.
It has also taken note of the false commentary, speculative narratives, tales, and films that are being shared on social media by ignorant parties, haters, and/or outlaws.
It is aware of attempts to infiltrate its ranks in order to use disloyal employees for subversive goals against its leadership. The Service cautions the plotters to cease their activities immediately even though these attempts are viewed as distraction hatchet jobs.
The arrow heads are already being watched and will be captured when and if it is necessary, so this is mainly for that reason.
It is essential to note that the Service had given access to Emefiele’s family, medical professionals, and other appropriate parties from the moment he was taken in and well in advance of the court order seeking it.
“The Service uses Standard Operating Procedures for handling suspects and conducting investigations. It follows democratic governance by conducting its business in a transparent, competent, and law-abiding manner.
“For the avoidance of doubt, it guarantees that the matter(s) now falling under its purview are being handled professionally. But it won’t be intimidated or sidetracked.
