Nigerians have asked President Bola Tinubu to order the detention and investigation of every official who served in Muhammadu Buhari’s previous administration due to allegations of fraud.

This is in light of allegations made by Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna Central, that the Buhari administration borrowed money from the CBN without getting permission when Godwin Emefiele, the suspended CBN Governor, was in charge.

“The Buhari government withdrew money from the CBN, spent it, and then went to the National Assembly to seek approval of the money they have already spent,” Sani tweeted after the DSS had arrested Emefiele. That was the system of government in the nation.

Nigerians responded on Twitter, saying that everyone who cooperated with Buhari—not just Emefiele—should receive the same treatment as the embattled CBN Governor.

Mazi Nzeako declared that “everyone in Buhari’s government needs to be arrested and imprisoned for a very long time.”

People often equate a low-key lifestyle with integrity, according to Bashiru AbdulAziz. A bigger corruption is when everyone in your government is in charge and there is no accountability while it is under your watch. Even a minister could appear before us and claim to have no knowledge of the responsibilities assigned to him. Chai!”

What became of the Federation’s fired Accountant General, Jasper Kalu asked in a comment? These incidents will continue to occur unless there are severe repercussions. At most by next week, Emefiele’s attorneys will ask for his release after being interrogated. We are aware of how this tale always ends.

“Why can’t Buhari get arrested for this?” questioned Emmanuel Chick. Why is Emefiele used as the fall guy?

“Not much outcome will be expected,” Lucas insisted. Emefiele has the support of powerful cabals. Until Nigeria passes a law removing the ex-presidents’ immunity and allowing them to stand trial. Emefiele followed orders from his boss, Buhari, rather than acting independently.
