According to President Bola Tinubu, candidates who refused to accept defeat in the most recent general elections do not deserve to experience joy when they ultimately prevail in subsequent elections.
The President acknowledged that the 2023 presidential election was hotly contested in his Democracy Day Nationwide Broadcast and credited the result to the nation’s strengthening democracy.
Bola Tinubu stated that “the beauty of democracy is that those who win election today can lose tomorrow and those who lose today will have the opportunity to compete and win in the next round.”
One of the reasons democracy is still the best form of government ever created, he noted, is that those who disagree with the results of the elections are currently “taking full advantage of the constitutional provisions to seek redress in court.”
The President characterized the disappointment shown by politicians who did not like the results of the elections in February and March as natural.
