The ‘Emilokan’ campaign slogan won’t succeed in the state’s elections, according to Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki.
He spoke when he welcomed the Edo South Senatorial District’s leaders to Government House.
Emilokan was a term used by President Bola Tinubu during the presidential election campaign.
Obaseki asserted, “Edo people will not accept ‘Emilokan’ as a strategy in government as they are not known for that. For us, the decision will be made by the populace.
“What has happened over the past several months is weird, and even if you have ambition, now is not the time to show it. The election’s schedule has not been released. You cannot be a member of a government and be the one to topple that same administration.
“I believed that we would come together, depart as a unit, and let the people to commend you on a job well done before allowing them to decide for themselves. They are the ones who insist that we must proceed, rain or shine.
“You are acting in opposition to what you are saying to the world. Even though you are in court with your principle, you are devoted to that person. Everyone has the right to have ambition, but they must exercise it properly.
Obaseki seems to be referring to his deputy, Philip Shaibu. Shaibu recently took his principal to court to prevent him from removing him from his position.
The governor charged his deputy with rigging the youth council elections in order to forward his own succession plans.
