Elections in 2023: Tinubu’s team requests that Biden “trash” Chimamanda’s open letter
The renowned author pointed out that a spokeswoman for the US State Department had recognised the anger voiced over the way the polls were conducted and any technological issues.
The All Progressives Congress (APCPresidential )’s Campaign Committee (PCC) has encouraged US President Joseph Biden to “destroy” an open letter sent by renowned novelist Chimamanda Adichie to him.
Chimamanda observed that a spokeswoman for the US Department of State had recognised the anger raised about the handling of the polls and technical issues in an open letter to US President Joe Biden published in The Atlantic on Thursday.
The envoy’s assertion that the proceedings were a “competitive election” that “represents a new epoch for Nigerian politics and democracy” confused the woman.
She asserted that US intelligence “certainly cannot be so incompetent.”
The APC PCC Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, responded in a succinct tweet on Friday, pleading with Biden to discard the letter as soon as it is received.
“Dear President Joseph Biden, when the open letter from Chimamanda on Nigeria’s election reaches your desk, please simply throw it out. The tragic passing of her tribesman Peter Obi served as inspiration for her fiction writing, he claimed.
In her letter to the US president, Chimamanda reiterated her support for Obi, although she made no mention of doing so because of Obi’s race.
We had been promised that technology would protect the integrity of ballots, so while I backed Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate, and thought he would win, as the polls had shown, I was ready to accept any outcome, she added.
No one should vote for Obi based on their ethnicity or religion, the politician has consistently told his followers.
